Pizza of the future? Little Caesars unveils the self-serve ‘pizza portal’

Little Caesars Pizza may be changing the pizza game.

The chain is unveiling a machine the company says it will test run, which allows customers to skip the line, grab their pizza and go.

According to the Detroit-based company the “pizza portal” is the first heated self-service device that streamlines the process of getting a pizza, letting customers pick up their mobile order with hot pies waiting for them.

“Customers get hot, freshly-prepared, custom products in hand seconds after they walk in the store,” Little Caesars said in a news release. “… The new service is aimed at helping customers have an easier and faster way to get pizza.”

The concept is similar to Sprinkles’ popular Cupcake ATM, which opened last year in Hyde Park.

Using the company’s mobile app, people will be able to order and pre-pay, with the app notifying customers when the order is ready.

Then, upon arriving at the store, customers can skip the line and input a 3-digit pin or scan a code and retrieve their order from behind a glass window.

The pizza portal, also called the Reserve-n-Ready, will undergo a trial run in select tests stores and will expand to other markets later in the year.
